Retired 26-year Normal fire fighter, 38-year local union 2442 member, Jim Schrepfer won the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois Mike Lass Award, named for the union organizer instrumental in organizing Illinois fire fighters. Jim said, “I was especially honored to receive the award named after the man who was responsible for the successful strike in Normal 40 years after 2442 got their original charter.”
Jim served multiple terms as the local’s president, plus was the AFFI’s Central District Vice-President, today a Vice-President Emeritus. He currently serves as the Retired Fire Fighters of Illinois President. For the AFFI he also chaired the Secondary Employment Committee and the Labor Orientation Committee.
He’s served on numerous State of Illinois committees, including Fire Fighter Medal of Honor, Fire Fighter Memorial, Small Equipment Grant and Fire Apparatus and Ambulance Loan Committee.
Within the community, Jim is active as Treasurer for Operation Santa and is a regular Midwest Food Bank volunteer. Plus he’s served on various political committees.
