Workers Memorial Day - the annual national commemoration of those who died on the job will be observed on Friday, April 27, at 6 a.m. at the picnic pavilion at Bloomington’s White Oak Park (off Cottage Avenue). Names of over 200 local workers who have died on the job or from occupational exposure will be read and remembered.
This annual ceremony is held before the workday, as a reminder to work safe. Local unions donated the flag pole, pavilion and over 100 trees at White Oak Park in honor of those who lost their lives. The ceremony will not be long, to ensure everyone gets to work on time.
Peoria’s event is Monday, April 30, with participants gathering at the Peoria Labor Temple, 400 NE Jefferson in Peoria at 5:00 p.m. to walk to the Workers’ Memorial Monument at City Hall.
