  • Bloomington City Council - District 87 schools endorsements
    Posted On: Mar 29, 2017

On March 1, candidates for local office addressed a labor forum.  After the meeting, delegates from the local unions, affiliated with the Bloomington & Normal Trades & Labor Assembly (AFL-CIO) and the Livingston & McLean Counties Building & Construction Trades Council deliberated for almost two hours and made the following endorsements:

    Mayor Tari Renner

Renner is running for a second term.  During that time he’s proven a steadfast worker-friendly mayor.  He’s stood up for workers’ right, appointed union members to Bloomington boards and commission, and has worked hard to develop road and building programs for Bloomington.

Ward 1 - Jamie Mathy  Jamie Mathy is a downtown Bloomington small business owner (Red Racoon Games) and sees downtown revitalization as needed for Bloomington’s stability.  He pledged his support for the construction prevailing wage and Project Labor Agreements when meeting with the Building Trades.

    Ward 3 - Mboka Mwilambwe

Mboka is completing his first full-term as a council member.  Mboka has proven a thoughtful and reflective voice on the Bloomington council and actively seeks labor’s advice on city issues.

    Ward 5 - Joni Painter

Joni is a good listener, running for her second term on the Council; she has been very responsive to neighborhood needs.

    Ward 7 - Scott Black

Scott Black is un-opposed for re-election. Scott is an energetic advocate for the west-side neighborhoods, seeking to uplift lower income people and insure that worker rights are upheld.

    Ward 9 - Kim Bray

Kim Bray is seeking her first time on the council. Of the candidates in her ward, she displayed the most progressive values.

    Bloomington District 87 Schools

Kiasha Henry is a neighborhood activist, American Postal Workers Union 228 member and is currently completed a school board term.
Elizabeth Fox-Anvick is a parent of two children in District 87 schools.
