Posted On: Nov 12, 2020
Very few know that Santa carries at IBEW 197 union card in his pocket.
For the 39th year, McLean County unions and local businesses will unite to host the Children’s Christmas Party, a holiday event for low-income families.
Because of COVID-19, there will be no party this year. However, a drive-through give away is planned from 10:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Midwest Food Bank off Northtown Road in Normal.
Traditionally the party is held at Bloomington High School. There are games, arts and crafts, electric trains, costumed characters and interactive fun for the approximately 350 children who attend annually. Then Santa comes for a visit and each child leaves with gifts and a goody bag.
The party is co-sponsored by the Bloomington & Normal Trades & Labor Assembly (AFL-CIO), Livingston & McLean Counties Building & Construction Trades Council and the McLean County Chamber of Commerce. This year’s sponsors include the Pantagraph newspaper, the Midwest Food Bank and Business Builders. Donations can be sent to Children’s Christmas Party, c/o McLean County Chamber of Commerce, 2203 E. Empire, Bloomington, IL 61704. Volunteers are welcome the afternoon of Dec 11 and after 8 a.m. on December 12 to assist at the Food Bank.
Families in need can register by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. The message should include the number of children, their ages and genders, the family address and phone number, plus a preferred time to arrive between 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on December 12. Families will then be notified of their assigned time.
